A New Mexico man is facing charges after sheriff’s deputies say he confessed to robbing his sister.   

The Gallup Independent reported that 25-year-old Joshua Malone was booked on burglary charges in connection with a break-in at the Thoreau home of Jamy Malone.

According to the McKinley County Sheriff’s office, Jamy Malone told deputies that someone had used a rock to break a window and steal a number of items, including a 32-inch flat screen television, a laptop computer, two Navajo rugs, DVDs, and a Navajo basket.

She told deputies that her brother later called her to admit that he stole the items.

The brother said he sold some of the items at a truck stop.

It was unclear if he had an attorney.

Panty Raid

New Mexico State Police says a Mora County Sheriff’s deputy has admitted to stealing a pair of women’s panties from a home while on duty.

KRQE-TV reports that Deputy Mathew Borrego admitted to stealing the green pair of underwear after another employee spotted the panties in a patrol car.

A spokesman for the Attorney General’s Office says that issue was uncovered during an investigation of Sheriff Thomas Garza.

Garza is accused of getting into a fight with another deputy last April after telling him to let a DWI suspect that he knew off the hook.

A state police spokesman said Borrego is a licensed dispatcher. The spokesman said state officials plan on sending Garza a letter saying that using Borrego as a deputy is a liability.

Library Loans are Not Eternal

A New Mexico woman was arrested and spent a night in jail for not returning the book “Twilight” and two-DVD set “The Twilight Saga: New Moon” back to the library on time.

The Albuquerque Journal reports Lori Teel was arrested and handcuffed at her Portales home in front of her five small children earlier this month for the $36 worth of library materials not returned since 2010.

Her attorney says arrest warrants were mailed last year to an address at which Teel hadn’t lived since childhood, but Teel was arrested by officers investigating a disturbance.

Her charges were dismissed.

For the Soul Purpose of Profit

An Albuquerque woman has something for sale on eBay that most of wouldn’t even consider selling at any price — her soul. 

KOB-TV reported that a woman identified as Lori N. recently put her soul up for bid starting at $2,000 on the online auction site. So far, nobody has made a bid.

The woman told KOB-TV she put her soul up for sale after a string of bad luck. She was a passenger in a car struck by a drunk driver in 2007. Lori was in a coma for three weeks, and woke up suffering from a stroke, a broken hip, broken pelvis, leg, collarbone, sternum, ribs, and a collapsed lung.

Lori said she realizes her ad may offend some people’s religious beliefs.

That’s Just Trashy

Albuquerque police say they are searching for two women who tried to rob a Dunkin’ Donuts wearing trash bags.

KRQE-TV reports that the women recently walked into the doughnut shop near the University of New Mexico donning trash bags over their bodies and demanded cash.

But store owner Greg Beliveau said the cashier recognized the two women who had come in moments earlier to buy doughnuts and to borrow the cashier’s phone to call a cab.

Police say the trashy would-be robbers were immediately chased out of the shop by the cashier and the woman escaped in the cab.

The cabbie later told police he kicked the women out because they didn’t have any money.

No arrests have been made.

All Tangled Up

Police say a would-be burglar was halted by unlikely obstacles — window blinds.

KRQE-TV reports that police found Thomas Molina one Sunday tangled in some window blinds at Central New Mexico Community College in Albuquerque after police received a call about a break-in.

Police say the 38-year-old Molina told police he was looking for computer hardware.

Molina was arrested and charged with burglary and breaking and entering. He is being held on a $10,000 bond.

It was unclear if he had an attorney.
